Breeding English Pointers for the Field, the Hunt, and the Home

At Edwin McQueen, we breed English Pointers with one goal in mind: to produce dogs that are exceptional in the field and a joy to live with. These dogs are born to hunt, built to run, and raised to be part of the family.

Why English Pointers?

I believe English Pointers are the best at what we ask them to do. Their drive, athleticism, and natural ability to find birds make them unmatched in the field. I field trial to test and evaluate my dogs against the highest standards—because that’s the level I breed to. I hunt with them to teach bird sense, to shape their instincts, and to give them the experience they need to become truly bird-smart.

What We Look For

Our breeding program is built on a few core principles:

  • Bird Focus: Everything starts with a dog’s desire to find birds. It’s the foundation of a great hunting and trial dog.
  • Nose Quality: As an old-timer once told me, “Breed a good nose to a good nose.” That’s exactly what we do.
  • Independence with Connection: We want dogs that will finish a line, not second-guess themselves. But they also need to stay connected—because a dog that’s out of the country can’t be trained.
  • The Run: A dog’s run is always a topic of debate. We know dogs get bigger as they age, so we look for pups that show promise early but still stay in touch with the handler.

How We Raise Our Pups

Socialization starts from day one. Our puppies grow up around our young kids, cats, and chickens (until they get too big and start chasing them!). They get early exposure to quail and spend time hunting wild grouse on our property every day. We even stake out our horses near their pen so they learn to be comfortable around them. Daily walks on multiple courses help them learn to move to the front and develop their natural range.

This isn’t just a kennel—it’s a lifestyle. I’m out with the dogs every day, involved in every step of their development. My kids help raise them, making sure they’re friendly, confident, and ready to bond with their future families.

Proven in the Field

Our dogs don’t just look the part—they prove it. We’ve placed in numerous field trials, and our dogs have earned top honors. My daughters have taken our dogs to the Canadian Kennel Club’s top puppy awards, with one of our females earning the #1 puppy in Canada and another placing 5th. My first dog earned a Field Trial Championship, and we’ve had a lot of success since.

Why Choose Us

If you’re looking for a dog that’s bred to hunt, trial, and live alongside you, we’d love to talk. Our dogs are raised with care, tested in the field, and bred with purpose. We’re not a volume breeder—we’re focused on quality, connection, and producing dogs that make you proud every time they hit the ground.

Registered and Recognized

Every litter we breed is registered with both the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) and the United Kennel Club (UKC)—a level of commitment and transparency that sets us apart. Our dogs are also AKC and NAVHDA registerable, giving you access to a wide range of opportunities, whether you’re trialing, hunting, or building your own breeding program. Very few breeders offer this level of versatility and recognition across organizations, and it’s something we’re proud to provide.

We breed for hunters and field trialers who want a dog that can go all day and still curl up with the kids at night. These dogs thrive in active homes and are happiest when they have a job to do.
